Downtown Retail Strategy

Launched four years ago by Portland Mayor Sam Adams, the Downtown Retail Strategy's goal is to enhance downtown’s signature retail district. The Clean & Safe District has been an active partner in the development and implementation of the strategy. The program includes a number of successful components such as:
  • Portland Storefronts: Enliven vacant storefronts through a partnership with the Downtown Marketing Initiative, Clean & Safe and downtown property owners. The vacant storefronts are brought to life by temporary art installations created by local artists.
  • PDX Pop-Up Shops: PDX Pop-Up Shops showcase local independent design talent, encouraging downtown shoppers to seek out the unique gift offerings downtown is showcasing during the holiday season. In addition to supporting local talent and emerging retail entrepreneurs, the shops allow property owners to showcase their space for future tenants.   • Fashion’s Night Out: Fashion's Night Out is an unprecedented global initiative created to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, and boost the fashion industry's economy. In the United States, the program is a collaboration between American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York. Fashion's Night Out launched in cities nationwide in September 2010 to put the fun back in shopping with designer appearances, live windows, celebrity guests and other special events.
