PORTLAND, Ore. - Maureen Fisher is joining Portland Business Alliance as vice president of Downtown Services and Downtown Portland Clean & Safe as executive director, a local nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the livability and vibrancy of Downtown Portland's shopping and business districts.

Maureen, recruited through a national search and approved by the Clean & Safe board, makes the transition after a successful tenure at the statewide nonprofit SOLVE. Her first day will be Thursday, Feb. 28. Clean & Safe’s current executive director, Lynnae Berg, announced her retirement in September 2018 and will stay on through the transition of leadership.

"We are forever grateful for Lynnae's invaluable leadership and service to Downtown Portland, and we are thrilled to welcome Maureen to the team," said Eric Murfitt, chair of Downtown Portland Clean & Safe’s board of directors.

“I am excited to collaborate with Maureen in her new role, and look forward to continuing lasting local partnerships that strive to keep the Rose City as clean as possible and as welcoming for everyone,” said Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler.

“Maureen’s ability to connect with people and lead complicated networks of support and services will be an amazing asset for the leadership of Clean & Safe,” said Dr. Rachel Solotaroff, president and CEO of Central City Concern. “I look forward to working with her in ways we can raise the awareness of the important problems we all work to solve.”

“Maureen’s local experience as a dynamic communicator with a strong background in organizational leadership and marketing is an incredible asset for all of us who work, shop or visit this beautiful city,” said Andrew Hoan, president and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance.

“We love Clean and Safe,” said R. Rolfe, co-owner of Boys Fort at 1001 SW Morrison. “We rely on their quick response, and the services they provide are essential to our success downtown.”

Downtown Portland Clean & Safe District is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit managed by the Portland Business Alliance, greater Portland’s chamber of commerce, and under the direction of the district’s board of directors. Founded in 1988 by local business leaders, Downtown Portland Clean & Safe is one of the first enhanced service districts in the country, with a focus on providing services and amenities to improve the livability of the region’s premiere business, shopping and destination district in Portland’s central core. Downtown Portland Clean & Safe contracts with Central City Concern to provide cleaning for the sidewalks in Downtown Portland. An important aspect of this work, are the hundreds of people hired to clean and maintain city sidewalks, who are themselves making the transition off the streets and into the workforce.
